Czech consumers scared to do online shopping abroad
According to press release in March 09, Czech consumers are much likely to shop at Czech online retailers. Only 1% are using e-shops in different countries on a regular basis. 7% are tempted by better price abroad the rest is shopping mainly in Czech e-shops. This research was conducted on 20 000 Czech e-shoppers by independent shopping advisor Heureka.cz.
The main obstacle for shopping abroad seems to be the language barrier, webs are not localised and also the worry about online payment. If you want to pay by card you have to have your card activated to do so by your bank.
The main e-shopping destinations doe Czechs are USA or UK and they are mainly after electronics and designer gear which is quite overpriced in Czech Republic next to USA.
In EU the amount of people shopping online is around 150 mil but only 20% of those also shops in different countries than theirs. The lack of unified European laws for online shopping where shoppers would feel that their data are protected and securely stored is the main concern.
